How do you classify a show's dancing level?

To help performers understand the dance demands of a production, StageAgent classifies a show’s dancing level into the following categories:

  • Heavy:

The show includes major dance numbers requiring technical knowledge of dance. Strong dance skills are essential.

  • Some Dance:

There are dance numbers in the production that require dancing, but not necessarily at a highly technical level.

  • Optional:

The artistic staff may choose to include minimal or some dance in scenes that traditionally have full dance numbers. Dancing is flexible or optional.

  • Musical Staging:

Basic staging that requires performers to move during musical numbers but no formal dance training is needed (e.g., chorus numbers in opera).

  • None:

The production does not include any dance.
